Technical Marketing 01

Are you busy working all day long? Or are you lazing around watching TV or listening to music and watching the days go by?

Which do you prefer?

For most of us, we work to earn money, so that we can enjoy lazing around with leisure activities. Isn’t it ironical?

I am reminded of a story where a weathy businessman was asking a fisherman why he was wasting his time seemingly doing nothing of much value.

——
One day a fisherman was lying on a beautiful beach, with his fishing pole propped up in the sand and his solitary line cast out into the sparkling blue surf. He was enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun and the prospect of catching a fish.

About that time, a businessman came walking down the beach, trying to relieve some of the stress of his workday. He noticed the fisherman sitting on the beach and decided to find out why this fisherman was fishing instead of working harder to make a living for himself and his family. “You aren’t going to catch many fish that way,” said the businessman to the fisherman. “You should be working rather than lying on the beach!”

The fisherman looked up at the businessman, smiled and replied, “And what will my reward be?” “Well, you can get bigger nets and catch more fish!” was the businessman’s answer. “And then what will my reward be?” asked the fisherman, still smiling. The businessman replied, “You will make money and you’ll be able to buy a boat, which will then result in larger catches of fish!” “And then what will my reward be?” asked the fisherman again. The businessman was beginning to get a little irritated with the fisherman’s questions. “You can buy a bigger boat, and hire some people to work for you!” he said.

“And then what will my reward be?” repeated the fisherman. The businessman was getting angry. “Don’t you understand? You can build up a fleet of fishing boats, sail all over the world, and let all your employees catch fish for you!” Once again the fisherman asked, “And then what will my reward be?” The businessman was red with rage and shouted at the fisherman, “Don’t you understand that you can become so rich that you will never have to work for your living again! You can spend all the rest of your days sitting on this beach, looking at the sunset. You won’t have a care in the world!”

The fisherman, still smiling, looked up and said, “And what do you think I’m doing right now?”
——-

That’s it, does that story teach you something about life? So let’s enjoy ourselves while we can.

Keep smilin’:-)

Burning Smells – Indication of Trouble

by admin on February 19th, 2012 at 10:43 pm

What’s that burning smell?

If you are running machinery, you will be asked this sooner or later. Machines produce heat. And heat produces burning smells. It’s as simple as that! I am sure many of us can sense that something is not right when we smell burning. After all burning means overheating. Machines are not meant to overheat. But sometimes they do.

Questions … questions …

How to tackle this?

Is it from the electrical source, or the mechanical source? Is there an overload in the electrical circuits? Is there a loose electrical connection somewhere? How about mechanical? Are the moving parts lubricated well? Does the lubrication oil take the heat away?

Questions…and more questions … But that is the way to troubleshoot. The more questions you ask, the better you are at arriving at the solution. You look at the problem from all angles.

Give it a try! Ask questions, and more questions …

Remember, you have 5 senses to help you. Human beings are blessed with the sense of smell, sight, touch, hearing, and taste to help them make deductions and survive in the world.

In this case the sense of smell puts you on the alert – there’s a burning smell. But where is it? Use your eyes to look. Unless you have myopia, very often, you should be able to see the source of the burning smell.

But sometimes the burning smell has already been carried over a wide area and there is no smoke to help you pinpoint the exact location of the fault …

Well, use your sense of touch to feel. Which machine is hotter? But at the same time, listen for any abnormal sounds that tell you that a machine is crackling all over, whistling, popping or exploding on burning oil or insulation materials! Come nearer, use your nose again to confirm the source of the burning smell.

So far, you have used 4 senses – smell, sight, touch, hearing … Do you want to taste and see? Probably not, unless it is an edible oil like butter or margarine.

Most important of all – use your Head. Unfortunately, nobody can teach you how to use it. But one thing is for sure – the more you use it, the better it becomes.

Then, you have to decide for yourself whether you have enough information to act or to run.

Through sufficient learning experiences, your brains might tell you whether the indication of trouble can cool off soon or whether it will escalate and it is time to run for your life. The whole machine might even explode!

Then, it’s time to use your sixth sense … Trust your feelings in your heart! If you feel uneasy, RUN!

Until next time…. Happy troubleshooting!

Are Visitors Afraid To Buy From Your Website?

by admin on February 19th, 2012 at 10:41 pm
Posted In: 3. Business Nuts & Bolts

Are you losing money everyday because of people’s fear of buying on the Internet? Poll after poll continue to show that most people are uneasy about placing an order online. This is costing you money.

It is this uneasiness that causes people, who need or want your product or service, to leave your site without placing that order. I know, some people simply change their minds about making a purchase at the last minute for other reasons. But, a large percentage of those last minute back-outs are due to the fears brought about by the horror stories people hear and read about of all the Internet scams and rip offs that are out there.

To counter this reluctance to shop online, you must do everything you can to convince your visitors that your site is a safe place to do business. If you succeed, your sales will jump dramatically.

Here are some ways to add credibility to a Website:

Place your contact information – including your name, physical address, telephone number and email address on your home page, your contact page and your order page. If visitors know you are easily accessible, they will feel better about doing business with you.

Use third party credibility by collecting testimonials from your satisfied customers and place them throughout your pages. Put the strongest two or three testimonials on the order page.

Another way to lend third party credibility to your site is to join either the Better Business Bureau or the Better Internet Bureau, and display their logo on your home page and your order page.

Pictures of your product(s) will greatly increase sales. If you are selling a service or a book, putting your picture on the site will build your visitor’s confidence in doing business with you.

Clearly state your policy on returns, including any time limits you impose on accepting returns.

Clearly spell out any guarantees you offer on your products and services.

Let your visitors know how your products and services will be delivered, and how long delivery will take.

Anything you can do to personalize your website will make people feel they know you, and this will make them more comfortable doing business with you.

The key to adding credibility to any site is to put yourself in the visitor’s shoes. Ask yourself, what would make me more trusting of this site? You may be able to come up with better ideas than the ones I have listed in this article.

A couple of redneck hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn’t seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head.

The other redneck starts to panic, then whips out his cell phone and calls 911.

He frantically blurts out to the operator, “O my gawd! Help! My friend just died. He’s Dead! What can I do?”

The operator, trying to calm him says, “Take it easy. I can help. Just listen to me and follow my instructions. First, lets make sure he’s dead.”

There’s a short pause…… and then the operator hears a loud gun shot!!!

The redneck comes back on the line and says, “OK, now what?”
